WATERSENS Kick-Off Meeting Held in Santander

WATERSENS Kick-Off Meeting Held in Santander

The WATERSENS project officially launched on 11 September 2025 at the Universidad de Cantabria in Santander, where representatives from all 16 partners gathered to begin this four-year Horizon Europe initiative.

Hosted by coordinators Daniel Castro-Fresno and Jorge Rodríguez Hernández, the meeting set the foundation for the project’s work on decentralised water management (DWM) solutions and the development of an integrated decision-support framework for water authorities and stakeholders.

Participants presented their demonstration sites across Spain, Portugal, Greece, and South Africa, each showcasing innovative approaches—from floating wetlands and green infrastructures to biofiltration and modernised cisterns.

The day concluded with a visit to the demo site in El Astillero, where partners explored the Phytobatea floating wetland technology designed for stormwater treatment.

WATERSENS will now move forward with pilot activities, co-creation events, and governance modelling, bringing together scientific expertise and community engagement to support sustainable, climate-resilient water solutions.
